Aromatic basmati rice dish with vegetables

Ingredients used: Basmati Rice 1000 g

A well-prepared rice dish is defined not only by its flavor, but above all by its texture. The rice grains should be light, separate, and yet still moist. Basmati rice naturally has a delicate, slightly nutty aroma and is ideal for dishes where elegance and lightness take center stage. In this version, the rice is combined with gently cooked vegetables, giving it additional depth and color.

Ingredients

2 Tassen Dere Basmati-Reis
1 small zucchini
1 red pepper
1 carrot
1 small onion
3 tablespoons of olive oil or 1 tablespoon of butter
3 cups of hot water or light vegetable broth
Salt
Freshly ground black pepper
Optional: a pinch of turmeric or a squeeze of lemon juice

Preparation

First wash the rice thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear. This step removes excess starch and helps achieve a light, fluffy texture later on. Then soak the rice in cold water for 15–20 minutes and drain it well afterwards.

Dice the onion finely. Cut the zucchini, pepper, and carrot into small, even cubes so that they cook uniformly.

Heat the olive oil or butter in a wide pot over medium heat. Sauté the onion until translucent, without browning it. Add the prepared vegetables and cook lightly for 3–4 minutes so that they still retain a slight bite.

Add the drained rice to the pot and sauté it for 2–3 minutes, stirring constantly. This step intensifies the aroma and helps improve the final grainy, fluffy texture.

Add the hot water or broth. Season with salt and pepper. If desired, a small pinch of turmeric can be added for a light color and extra flavor.

As soon as the liquid comes to a boil, reduce the heat, cover the pot, and let the rice cook gently over low heat for about 12–15 minutes. During this time, do not open the lid so that the steam remains inside the pot.

Once the cooking time is over, remove the pot from the heat and let the rice rest for another 10 minutes. Then gently fluff it with a fork so that the grains remain separate.

This dish is served hot and is suitable both as a meal on its own and as an accompaniment to legume-based dishes such as lentil or chickpea stew. When prepared with the right technique, it results in an aromatic, elegant rice dish with a light texture and balanced seasoning.
